In information architecture we like to believe that we eliminate messes. The reality is that we just get to choose our messes. The trick is how to make the right choices so we end up with the right messes. That is we end up with messes that we can manage. In this session, we’ll look at the great conflicts and talk through why you might land on one side or the other. Folders vs. Metadata. Shallow-Many and Deep-Few options. Along the way we’ll dispel some deeply held beliefs that aren’t supported by science. We’ll draw from other disciplines to inform how we approach problems, and figure out how to make sure we’re making the right messes.
